IWVSC Summer Wrap-Up and Fall League Look Ahead

This was IWVSC’s second summer holding both a Technical and Elite Camp, and the club is excited about the number of players that turned out for both camps, as well as the great soccer played at both.  Technical Camp ran in June 2017 and we had 78 players participate for three weeks. They were three very hot weeks here in Ridgecrest, CA, but the players and coaches worked hard throughout the camp to improve technical skills. The camp was set up for the players to move between the coaches and learn a different skill each session. This gave coaches a chance to pass along their specialty but also gave the players experience with a lot of different coaching styles.

Elite Camp ran for one full week in July 2017 and we had 51 players participate. Similarly, players moved to a different coach each night and that coach had a specific topic to work on with the players. The designated skill was at a  higher technical ability than during our Technical Camp. What we are hoping to accomplish with the Elite Camp is to have it serve as a preseason to our Fall League tryouts. The higher competition within the Elite Camp made for an exciting last day of challenges and scrimmages.
For our Fall League session this year we will have three teams traveling to Bakersfield to play in a Cal South Sanctioned league called the Golden Valley Soccer League.

This is a large step for the club and provides a great amount of opportunity for our players to travel to Cal South Sanctioned tournaments this Spring. We are looking forward to the competition within the GVSL and are excited for this new chapter for IWVSC. Along with those three traveling teams, we will also have two U-18 teams (one girls and one boys) who will be focusing on small sided tournaments for the Fall. Lastly, we have a U-8 and a U-6 group training two days a week and playing scrimmages within their group or with local competition to build our youngest soccer players here in Ridgecrest.

We look forward to a successful, competitive and hard working Fall session.
